They are in the same place as the coffee and the espresso place and it is close to the coffee shop. The cafe has a large and comfortable kitchen with a variety of dishes to share. This place was the perfect choice for me.
The waiters are very friendly and attentive to our needs. The drinks were good and affordable, but my favorite was the coffee. It was sweet with a little spice and it was a must-order in any cafe in Germany. I enjoyed having several glasses of the coffee. The staff was very friendly too and I appreciated their good service with me. There was little seating outside so you would want to sit in the same spot with others. The atmosphere was relaxing too.

Oh, Sedan Café! Last summer, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this hidden gem in Freiburg im Breisgaun, Germany – located at the slightly off-putting address of Sedanstraße 9 (I mean, really, who comes up with these names?). We were so excited to try a local café, especially after reading all those glowing reviews online about their amazing coffee and delicious pastries. But boy, were we in for a surprise!
First things first, the place is quite unassuming from the outside. It looks like your typical nondescript German building, which might not be much of a deal-breaker if it weren't for the fact that as soon as you step inside, you're greeted by what can only be described as the aesthetic equivalent of a wet fart.
The decor is so bland, it makes IKEA look like a museum dedicated to the artistry of minimalism. And don’t get me started on those chairs – they were like something out of a bad 80s sitcom set. You know those plastic monstrosities that fold up into little squares? Yeah, they had those.
Despite our initial disappointment with the lackluster décor, we decided to give Sedan Café another chance. After all, good food should be able to stand on its own merits, right? Wrong! While their coffee was passable – think of it as the cafeteria joe you'd expect at a high school assembly – the pastries were downright forgettable.
Now, I don’t mean to sound like a food snob here (though let's be honest, who reads restaurant reviews looking for humility?), but when I bite into a croissant and it tastes like cardboard, there's a problem. And trust me, Sedan Café serves some of the most flavorless pastries this side of the Black Forest.
But hey, at least we had each other, amiright?! My boyfriend and I tried our best to make light of the situation by turning it into an inside joke – every time someone walked in and saw our table, we'd pretend to be having the best time ever. We even started rating our meals out of ten (on a scale where one is "Worst. Breakfast. Ever." and ten is "I want to marry this café"). Our final score? A generous 3/10 – not exactly what you'd call glowing, but at least we were able to laugh about it afterwards.
So no, Sedan Café isn't going to make anyone's list of must-visit cafés in Freiburg im Breisgaun (or anywhere else for that matter). But hey, sometimes life throws us those unexpected surprises – like discovering a hidden gem in the form of a terrible café. And you know what? We learned something valuable during our time at Sedan Café: never judge a book by its cover... or a café by its decor.

I visited Altstadt-Café, located at Gerberau 12 in Freiburg im Breisgaun, Germany with my husband sometime ago. To be honest, our experience there was quite disappointing. The pastries looked and tasted stale. The rock-hard croissants left a bitter taste in our mouths.
