What they did looked like a field study and I wanted to know who was doing it? I was so fascinated that I kept looking at my menu and didn't speak to them. On Monday when I passed by them again, they were working and had stopped at a gas station.
I stopped and gave them a wave and told them that I enjoyed their field study. The younger one introduced himself and said that they wanted to be tourists in their own town.
That they were surprised when they arrived at Mission and found that the buildings were as old as the town and were surprised to find the same people still living there What an interesting idea! My cup of coffee and pie arrived and the younger of the two was still there.
I realized that I had forgotten to ask him his name. I was still wondering if he would mind a question when he started answering it for me as I looked down, "What?" I was curious at what he was going to say, "Yeah, I'm not exactly...", "Hey, is it alright if I ask you a quick question?" I responded, "Sure, go ahead.
I hadn't even asked my coffee or pie down yet when he interrupted, "Did you used to be a doctor or something? I'm an aspiring surgeon and I read about your new program on the hospital radio." I chuckled, "Yeah, I used to be a doctor, so, I guess you could say...", He laughed and said, "No, thank you!"
With that we shook our heads in agreement and I looked down to see my coffee and pie. "I'm afraid to think too deeply about the two of us. I was waiting for something like this to happen. This is the first real conversation between us."
