He only had to make coffee, so he didn't have to pay a rent. There was also free coffee for him. The idea of free coffee for all people is still a good idea.
But he knew that there was an important problem.
People didn't want to pay coffee costs anymore because they wanted to save their money. This made it a lot harder for him to start up his new coffee shops. He started a new coffeeshop in the town called Typica in the early years.
He knew the problem: People still wanted their money back. He started thinking, "How can I turn this business around for free to people who don't want to pay for coffee anymore?" This is how he got the business name of Typica Coffee. That's why we refer to his company as "Typica".
When he became owner of the coffeehouse, he took over the entire coffee business. He wanted to improve quality of coffee. He wanted to make coffee with only quality ingredients. He wanted to create great flavors, so that everybody was happy.
After some time, he realized his idea was wrong: He was selling very high end coffee and the cost of coffee was too high.
He had to change this. He made a lot of coffee without using the best quality coffee and the legend has fallen soon after his death in 1998.
